LIBRARY
 
 

APAI have available a specialised library with nearly 1,500 books besides more than 80 titles of periodical publications.

 

The members and the public in general (in this instance, against payment of an annual fee) for the purpose of access to the library during the Association's working hours (here, a prior phone contact is required).

 
DOCUMENTATION AND ARCHIVES
 
 

Besides APAI's archives and documentation produced in area or scope of works realised, there are other assets lodged for safekeeping as Association's trust, viz those pertaining to "Associação dos Industriais de Massas Alimentícias, Bolachas e Chocolates" and its predecessors (i.e. "Noodles, Biscuits and Chocolate Manufacturing Association").

 

Due to specific conditions dependent on these assets, access to them is limited and subject to permission from APAI's Administration.

 
COPIES OF DOCUMENTS
 
 

The Association have a photocopier and the costs are charged for its services.

 

Copies of documents produced by other methods and means cover specific costs, with an additional fee for non-members.

 
CONSULTING SERVICES
 
 

APAI render consulting services to private and public entities such as maintenance, recuperation and re-utilisation of industrial and technical heritage.

 

APAI shall only collect from the associated institutions the value corresponding costs of displacement, in case when it is justified. The human and technical resources included in the report worked out by the Association shall not be collected from the members, except when the deriving study imply external services to the Association in agreement with the both parties.

 
PROJECTS OF INVENTORY, STUDY AND MUSEOLOGY
 
 

The "Portuguese Association of Industrial Archaeology" in the course of its existence has established protocols of different kinds with private and public institutions, aiming at the study and museology of areas connected with industrial processes, as well as inventory of industrial and technical heritage [Presentation].

 

These protocols result from a prior evaluation carried out by both the parties and variable estimate - case by case - bearing in mind function of objectives and resources embraced.

 
PROCESSES OF CLASSIFICATION
 
 

APAI promote study and collaborate in submitting for consideration of the competent entities, their requests for classification of public interest for the industrial and technical heritage.

 

Among other various processes organized by the Association, are reported to buildings and sites in respect of ancient spinning mill "Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonense" of Alcântara (Lisbon), ancient milling complex of "Bom Sucesso" of Belém (Lisbon), wollen factory "Fábrica de Lanifícios da Romeira" of Alenquer, ancient industrial school "Escola Industrial Marquês de Pombal" and actual high school "Escola Secundária de Fonseca Benevides" of Alcântara (Lisbon), the archaeological encampment of Coina (Barreiro), and the paper mill "Fábrica de Papel do Boque" of Serpins (Lousã, Coimbra).
